In a village near the Letpadaung Mountain area of Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, protesters organized a demonstration as part of pre-birthday commemorative activities for State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s upcoming 80th birthday. The protest was led by the Letpadaung Main Strike Committee, with local villagers marching while holding banners that read ‘Continue to Fight for the Liberation of the Whole Country along with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.’ The protesters adorned themselves with roses as they participated in what they called a ‘flower strike’ demonstration.
During the protest, village residents demanded the unconditional release of all political prisoners, including public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and others who have been unjustly detained. The protesters also showed their solidarity with the people fighting for democracy, human rights, and the establishment of a federal democratic union. Participants in the demonstration sent their well-wishes for Aung San Suu Kyi’s health, safety, and liberation, while also praying for the swift release of all detained political leaders and imprisoned civilians. The protest demonstrated the continued public support for democratic leadership and opposition to military rule.
Similarly, in Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region, there are ongoing mobilization efforts for people to participate in a flower strike planned for June 19, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday. Local residents are making preparations to successfully carry out the flower strike movement as a birthday commemoration and are conducting outreach activities to encourage widespread public participation. These activities represent the public’s moral support for the anti-dictatorship movement and the ongoing struggle for democracy, as evidenced by the continued peaceful demonstrations despite the challenging circumstances facing the country.
