Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in and around Takon Township in Naypyidaw, prompting emergency evacuation and rescue operations for local residents, according to officials from the Moe Saytana humanitarian organization. The flooding began on the evening of August 26 following intense rainfall, with mountain runoff causing the Nawin Creek to overflow, affecting Takon town and surrounding areas including Magyinpin village and Punnarmi village. Humanitarian groups are actively conducting rescue operations and relocating affected residents to safer locations.
Ko Phyo Way, Chairman of Moe Saytana humanitarian organization, explained that the combination of mountain runoff and Nawin Creek overflow has put rescue teams on high alert. The teams have been divided between Pyinmana Township and throughout Naypyidaw to conduct rescue operations, while local residents are being evacuated to safer areas. He further reported that flooding continues in the Takon, Magyinpin, and Punnarmi areas, with ongoing rainfall exacerbating the situation.
With floodwaters expected to reach Pyinmana town by this afternoon, residents near Pyinmana town and the Zeyathiri River have been advised to remain vigilant. Emergency rescue teams equipped with boats are stationed near the Pyinmana Sugar Factory and are ready to respond to emergency situations. The flooding is attributed to the remnants of Typhoon Kajiki from the South China Sea, which has entered Myanmar. Weather forecasts predict continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Myanmar from August 27 to September 1, according to meteorological reports.
