In Kyaukpadaung Township, Mandalay Region, a local defense force has arrested five individuals, including a Non-CDM Assistant Director and other staff members under the military council. The incident occurred at the Poppa Mountain Garden’s Yesuu Camp in Poppa Village Tract, where the forest department staff were engaged in tree planting activities. The arrested individuals include Tin Aung Kyaw, who serves as both Assistant Director and Garden Administrator of Poppa Mountain Garden, Forest Officer Kyaw Naing Oo, Forest Head Ye Linn Htet, the Forest Head’s driver, and Way Linn Htun from Yenangyaung Township, who was leading the tree-planting team from Yenangyat Dingar.
The arrests took place around 2 PM on July 5th, targeting staff members who had not joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and continued working under the military council. Along with the arrests, the resistance forces also seized a Mitsubishi vehicle with registration number 4H/5335 belonging to Tin Aung Kyaw. A spokesperson from the local revolutionary force based in Kyaukpadaung confirmed the arrests, stating that the Non-CDM staff members were indeed in their custody and that the responsible group would likely issue an official statement regarding the incident.
This incident represents a significant development in the ongoing civilian resistance against the military regime in Myanmar. The local defense forces have been taking action against those who continue to work under the military council’s administration, viewing such cooperation as support for the regime that has been committing violence against its own people. These arrests demonstrate the growing tension between revolutionary forces and those who maintain their positions within the military council’s administrative structure. The incident also highlights the continued resistance activities in the Mandalay Region, where various revolutionary groups operate to oppose the military council’s control and administration of local government functions.
