
The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has reported that five civilians, including a 4-year-old child, were killed and 25 others were injured due to airstrikes and artillery attacks by the terrorist military council in Letdo and Shwegyin townships of Bago Region. On July 1st at around 9 PM, soldiers from the terrorist military council’s Infantry Battalion 264, based in Peinzalut in Letdo Township, fired two 81mm artillery shells that exploded in Yeiwinkone village.
On June 29th, fighter jets from the military council’s Taungoo Air Force Base conducted airstrikes on Wegyi Wedo village. The attack resulted in the deaths of 35-year-old Daw Thida Oo, 67-year-old Daw Aye Aye Oo, 65-year-old Daw Khin Shwe, and 4-year-old Maung Zwae Pyae, while other villagers sustained injuries. Additionally, on June 28th at 7:20 PM, soldiers from Infantry Battalion 264 in Shwegyin Township fired a howitzer shell that exploded in Chauntin village, killing 75-year-old U Ngar Thaung Tin and destroying one house.
The terrorist military council continues to deliberately target innocent civilians, resulting in daily casualties and injuries among the civilian population. The KNU Central Committee has stated that local residents are living in constant fear and anxiety due to these attacks. These brutal attacks by the military council have severely disrupted the daily lives of local residents, forcing many to flee their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with civilians facing both immediate physical dangers and long-term displacement challenges.
