In Kachin State’s Hpakant Township, clashes between the military forces and combined forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) resulted in serious injuries to five civilians, including a seven-year-old child, in San Kway village. The incident occurred when military forces entered the villages of Maw Taung and San Kway along the Mamon-Hpar Pin-Hpakant road around 4 AM on September 6. The KIA and PDF joint forces engaged in defensive operations against the advancing military troops, leading to intense exchanges of fire.
During the conflict, military fire struck San Kway village, causing injuries to a Buddhist monk from Masoeyin monastery and three villagers, along with the seven-year-old child. Local sources confirmed that the child’s condition is particularly severe and life-threatening. Later that same day, around 11:30 AM, another child was wounded when military forces launched artillery strikes into Hpakant city’s Ayemyathayar ward. The ongoing military operations have forced the KIA and PDF to withdraw from one of their security posts in Maw Taung village.
The previous night, on September 5, heavy fighting erupted between military forces stationed at Ever Myaw plantation in Yuma village along the Hpakant-Seikmu road and the resistance forces. Reports also emerged of military forces forcibly recruiting young people from Lay Pin village in the Lon Chan village tract to serve as human shields. The entire Hpakant region is experiencing heightened military tensions, with local sources warning of an expected increase in the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and calling for humanitarian assistance preparations.
The military has been continuously launching offensive operations in the Hpakant region since late May, deploying multiple columns of troops. These military activities have severely disrupted civilian life in the area, leading to widespread displacement and humanitarian concerns. The situation continues to deteriorate as military forces maintain their aggressive presence in the region, forcing local residents to flee their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The ongoing conflict has created a significant humanitarian crisis, with increasing numbers of civilians requiring emergency assistance and support.
