Kim Aris, the younger son of Aung San Suu Kyi, has embarked on a mission to the United States to advocate for the release of his mother and other political prisoners. While there have been rumors circulating among the public about Aung San Suu Kyi being transferred to house arrest, Kim Aris clarified that these are false reports spread by the military council.
Kim Aris began his US tour on March 12, conducting meetings with Myanmar communities in New York, Boston, and Maryland. On March 22, he held a public meeting with the Myanmar community at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Throughout his journey, he has prioritized two main objectives: securing the release of political prisoners, including his mother, who have been unjustly detained, and obtaining humanitarian assistance for those affected by the military’s actions in Myanmar.
During his tour, Kim Aris successfully raised significant funds from the Myanmar diaspora community, collecting approximately $53,908 in New York, $35,000 in Boston, and nearly $40,000 in Maryland, totaling over $100,000 in donations. He has committed to transparent use of these funds, promising to publicly announce detailed information about how the donations will be utilized to support those in need. The funds will be directed towards essential humanitarian efforts and support for those affected by the ongoing crisis in Myanmar.
