Local residents from Nabaypin village in Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, have been forced to flee en masse due to offensive operations by the military council forces. On April 28 at around 6 AM, military council troops launched heavy artillery attacks on Nabaypin village before soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militia members entered the village, burning down two civilian homes. The military forces have engaged in widespread looting and destruction of civilian property.
The military council troops forcibly confiscated villagers’ gold and silver jewelry, motorcycles, vehicles, and essential food supplies including rice and cooking oil. According to local residents, the value of the seized property amounts to thousands of lakhs (hundreds of thousands of dollars). Additionally, they arrested and tortured several villagers, including the village administrator who had been appointed during the National League for Democracy government’s administration.
On May 5, the military council forces conducted drone strikes on Nabaypin village, destroying three houses. Further drone attacks were carried out in the morning of May 24, causing additional damage to houses and buildings. Currently, villagers are still unable to return to their homes due to ongoing security concerns and continue to seek refuge in safer locations. The widespread destruction and ongoing threats have effectively emptied the village of its civilian population as residents remain displaced, unable to safely return to their properties and normal lives.
