On May 31 in Yangon, the Do Not Seek Savior protest column and civilians demonstrated demanding action against the military council that has been committing war crimes. During the protest, participants called for the complete fall of the military dictatorship system and urged the use of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to save the lives of Myanmar people.
Protesters held signs reading “Vote ILO Article 33 to save LIVES” and chanted slogans against the military dictatorship with great enthusiasm. The demonstrators expressed that effective international action is needed as the military council continues to commit acts of violence, arbitrary arrests, torture, and killings against civilians.
Since the coup, the military council has systematically oppressed the people, forcing young people into military service, burning villages, and targeting innocent civilians, leading to increased pressure both domestically and internationally. The protesters demanded economic sanctions against the military council through the implementation of ILO Article 33 and called for international-level actions to be taken. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing atrocities committed by the military council and emphasized the urgent need for concrete international intervention to protect Myanmar’s civilian population.
