According to Myanmar aviation sources, an Airbus aircraft has been purchased for nearly $60 million USD for the use of military council leader Min Aung Hlaing and his family. The aircraft, an Airbus A319-115 (MSN 5193) registered under the tail number XY-ALK, was acquired from AVIATION CAPITAL GROUP in the United States during February of this year. The substantial investment of nearly $60 million USD includes both the purchase price of the aircraft and extensive interior modifications made to meet Min Aung Hlaing’s specifications.
The aircraft, registered under Myanmar Airways International (MAI), is exclusively used for Min Aung Hlaing’s travel arrangements and his family’s private trips. Sources confirm that Min Aung Hlaing’s wife Kyu Kyu, their children, and grandchildren have been using this aircraft for their international travels, including shopping trips to South Korea and visits to Singapore. These private journeys have been conducted discretely, utilizing the aircraft for personal family matters rather than official state business.
MAI airline, which was previously owned by KBZ Chairman U Aung Ko Win, is now under the ownership of 24 Hour Group Chairman U Aung Aung Zaw. This aircraft purchase represents a significant expenditure of resources while the people of Myanmar continue to face economic hardships under the military council’s oppressive rule. Analysts note that this substantial investment in personal luxury transportation stands in stark contrast to the struggling conditions faced by ordinary citizens, highlighting the disparity between the military leadership’s lavish spending and the country’s pressing humanitarian needs.
