
From the start of Operation 1027 until April 2025, a total of 26 high-ranking military council officers at the level of Brigadier General and Major General have been affected in battles across Myanmar. These casualties include 9 prisoners of war at the Brigadier General level, 6 Major Generals who surrendered, 6 deaths in combat, 1 suicide, 3 dead or missing, and 1 missing officer.
The highest number of casualties occurred in battles with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), resulting in 12 total casualties including 3 prisoners of war at Brigadier and Major General levels, 6 who surrendered, 2 deaths, and 1 suicide. The second-highest casualties were recorded during the Arakan Army’s (AA) urban offensive operations, with 10 total casualties including 4 Major General prisoners of war, 2 deaths, 3 dead or missing, and 1 missing officer.
In engagements with the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), the military council lost one Major General as a prisoner of war and another was killed. In battles with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), one Division Commander was killed, while another Division Commander fell in combat with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). Additionally, the People’s Defense Forces under the National Unity Government (NUG) captured one military council Division Commander as a prisoner of war.
The breakdown of military council casualties by rank includes 1 former Regional Commander, 2 Deputy Regional Commanders, 2 Regional Operations Commanders, 1 Regional Control Command Head, 1 Operations Control Command Head, 10 Division Commanders, and 10 Regional Operations Command Heads. Of the 30 infantry divisions and regional operation commands, commanders from 17 units have been affected. Notable cases include Brigadier General Zin Myo Swe, Commander of Operations Control Command-19, who was captured by the AA in Paletwa battles and later reported missing, and Major General Min Min Tun, Commander of Division-11, who was initially reported killed in Mrauk-U township battles but later escaped.
