A Deputy Police Inspector from the Metta Police Station in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, has defected to the Dawei National Liberation Army (DNLA) with his service weapon, no longer wishing to serve under the violent military council. The incident occurred on August 29, when Deputy Police Inspector Ko Than Naing Tun surrendered with one G-3 rifle, two ammunition magazines, and 225 rounds of ammunition. In recognition of his defection, the Duraka Column awarded him 5 million kyat and arranged for his safe passage to a liberated area of his choosing, as confirmed by a responsible official from the Duraka Column.
A representative from the Duraka Column explained that they provide predetermined rewards for those who defect and ensure safe transport to liberated areas of their choice. As the revolution and military operations intensify, the Duraka Column encourages soldiers and police officers who wish to stand with the people to seek refuge with the public as soon as possible. They have arranged secure shelters for military and police personnel seeking to escape from under the oppressive military council’s control and will provide necessary assistance to those who defect. The movement continues to support those who choose to stand with the people rather than continue serving under the military council that commits violence against civilians.
