
A deputy police corporal named Hla Lin from the Salingyi Township Police Station in Sagaing Region has defected to Battalion 16 in Yinmabin District along with his family and weapons. The incident occurred on the evening of April 9th, when the deputy corporal decided to leave his post under the military council, no longer wishing to serve under their authority. He brought with him a G3 rifle and five rounds of ammunition when defecting with his family members.
According to an official from Battalion 16 in Yinmabin District, the deputy corporal had been in contact with them for some time but needed time to arrange his departure with his family. The battalion has implemented comprehensive security measures for defectors, offering them the choice to either continue participating in revolutionary activities or relocate to safe areas with necessary support. The official emphasized that they have made all necessary arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of defectors and their families.
The defecting deputy corporal Hla Lin was awarded a honorarium of 8 million kyats (approximately 80 lakhs) by the battalion, and arrangements have been made for his family’s accommodation and basic needs in a secure location. To date, Battalion 16 in Yinmabin District has received a total of eight defectors. The battalion continues to warmly welcome any military council soldiers or police personnel who wish to defect, assuring them of full support and protection with complete accountability and responsibility for their welfare.
