In Mudon Township, Mon State, at Block Nyaung Wine village, 29 civilians went into shock and were hospitalized after receiving expired injectable medicines administered by a non-CDM midwife Thida Win, resulting in the death of a 79-year-old woman, Daw Tin Thein, due to kidney failure. The incident occurred on July 30th when the non-CDM midwife administered expired injectable medicines provided by the military council’s Ministry of Health to elderly and middle-aged residents in the village.
Following the injections, 29 people experienced sudden shock and lost consciousness, requiring immediate hospitalization at both Mudon Hospital and Mawlamyine General Hospital for emergency treatment. Among those receiving medical treatment, 79-year-old Daw Tin Thein passed away around 5 PM on August 1st due to kidney failure caused by adverse reactions to the medication. While middle-aged patients have recovered and been discharged from the hospital, elderly patients continue to receive medical treatment.
According to local residents, the non-CDM midwife Thida Win has not faced any legal consequences for the incident. Instead, she is reportedly working with military administrators to attempt to silence affected patients through monetary settlements. This incident highlights the weaknesses in the healthcare system under military council control and the lack of proper oversight, leading to potentially life-threatening situations for civilians. The case demonstrates the ongoing healthcare crisis under the military administration, where proper medical protocols and safety measures are compromised, putting civilian lives at risk.
