
Kim Aris, the younger son of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, visited Myanmar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, United States, where he met with Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun. The visit took place while Kim Aris was in the United States for a campaign related to his mother’s upcoming 80th birthday. He arrived at the Myanmar Mission at 1 PM local time on March 14 and held discussions with Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, who has joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) against the military regime.
On March 13, Kim Aris participated in an event at the UN Headquarters in New York, where he focused on discussing the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affecting women and children who have become victims of military violence in Myanmar. During the event, he provided detailed information about the current situation in Myanmar and the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. He explained the ongoing civil war resulting from the military coup, the displacement of civilians, and the critical humanitarian crisis facing the country’s people.
Speaking about his visit, Kim Aris stated that his primary objectives include working towards the release of all political prisoners, including his mother Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who have been unjustly detained by the military regime. He emphasized the urgency of securing humanitarian assistance for war-affected civilians in Myanmar. Additionally, he mentioned his plans to meet with Myanmar diaspora communities and aid organizations in the United States to discuss support efforts. The visit underscores the continuing international advocacy for Myanmar’s democratic struggle and the pressing need to address the humanitarian crisis in the country.
