On May 26, a battle broke out in Thoke Chaung village, Paungkhaung Township, Pyay District, Bago Region, when People’s Defense Forces (PDF) attacked military council troops who were burning civilian homes. According to the Intelligence and Information Officer Shadow from the PDF Battalion 3601 of Pyay District, one military soldier was killed and seven others were wounded in the engagement. The operation involved coordinated action from PDF Battalion 3601’s 1st, 4th, and 5th companies, along with Paungkhaung PDF forces.
The confrontation began at 1:15 PM when approximately 50 military council troops were setting fire to houses in Thoke Chaung village without any provocation or ongoing conflict. The PDF forces responded with both heavy and light weapons. Although the military council forces returned fire with their own arsenal of heavy and light weapons, no casualties were reported among the PDF fighters. The military council troops were deliberately targeting civilian homes for destruction when the PDF forces launched their attack.
By 8:30 PM, the military council forces retreated toward Paungkhaung town, evacuating their dead and wounded by vehicles. The revolutionary forces have been making significant progress in controlling territory within Paungkhaung Township, Bago Region. Earlier in May, resistance forces successfully captured both the Thetpoke military outpost and the Theinkun tower outpost, demonstrating their growing tactical capabilities and territorial control in the area. These victories represent significant advances in the resistance movement’s efforts to challenge the military council’s authority in the region.
