Multiple villages in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei District came under aerial attack by the military council on September 17, resulting in civilian casualties. The attacks targeted over 10 villages across Dawei, Launglone, Thayetchaung, and Yebyu townships. Using two Y-12 aircraft, the military council conducted more than 50 bombing runs using 120mm bombs, killing two civilians and severely injuring five others, according to local residents.
The airstrikes claimed the lives of Daw Tin Shein, age 60, and a 30-year-old man from Wedi village in Launglone Township. The attacks also left U Yu Sein, age 60, a 30-year-old woman, and three 10-year-old children with severe injuries. Local sources indicate that these airstrikes were conducted under the pretext of security measures for military council leader Min Aung Hlaing’s planned visit to the Dawei region, deliberately targeting civilian areas.
In preparation for Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Dawei city on September 18, the military council has deployed numerous troops throughout the city and implemented strict security measures, including intensive checks at all entry and exit points. Local residents report that there were no active conflicts in the area during the time of the airstrikes, indicating that civilian areas were deliberately targeted. The extent of damage and casualties in other townships has yet to be confirmed.
