The People’s Defense Force (Mandalay) has confirmed that civilians were killed and injured in airstrikes and artillery attacks by the military council forces on Kampani and Zarapkwin villages in Sagaing Township, Mandalay Region. The attacks, which occurred on the evening of September 11, resulted in a total of 5 civilian deaths and 4 injuries according to official reports from the resistance forces.
The first attack took place at approximately 3:15 PM in Kampani village, where the military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike using fighter jets. This attack resulted in the death of three civilians and left four others wounded, as confirmed by Ko Aung Smon, spokesperson for the People’s Defense Force (Mandalay). A second attack followed later in the evening at around 5:30 PM.
During the second attack, military council forces stationed near the 4-mile and 5-mile points near Zarapkwin village in Sagaing Township launched artillery strikes. These shells landed in residential areas, causing the death of two more civilians. Resistance organizations have stated that these attacks appeared to be deliberately targeting civilian populations. The military council forces continue to commit war crimes by openly attacking civilian populations with airstrikes and heavy weapons.
Due to the military council’s ongoing commission of war crimes through aerial bombardment and artillery attacks against civilian populations, revolutionary organizations have urged local residents to remain vigilant regarding military activities and to follow proper air raid defense procedures. These organizations have further emphasized that such attacks not only violate international law but also contradict basic humanitarian principles. The resistance forces continue to document these incidents as evidence of the military council’s systematic attacks against civilian populations, which they say constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law and human rights conventions.
