The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has confirmed that two civilians were injured when the military council launched unprovoked artillery attacks on villages in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region. During the incident on August 28th in the evening, military forces based in Nat Than Kwin village fired a 120mm artillery shell at Talaing Khin village, injuring 61-year-old Naw Dar Htoo and 70-year-old Saw Toe Naw, while also destroying one house. The military council troops fired another 120mm artillery shell at around 5:30 PM, which landed in farmlands east of Talaing Khin village, though no injuries were reported from this second attack.
The KNU Central Committee has reported that civilians in townships across Nyaunglebin District are living in fear as the military council deliberately targets civilian areas with daily artillery and drone attacks. The attacks appear to be intentional strikes against civilian populations rather than related to any active fighting in the area. Local residents have expressed serious concerns about their safety as these unprovoked attacks continue to threaten their lives and property.
Additionally, local sources have confirmed that the military council conducted two separate aerial bombing raids on villages in Myaing Township, Mandalay Region. Around 2 AM on August 31st, two military aircraft from Meiktila Air Base dropped two bombs on villages in the southwestern part of Myaing Township. While these bombs exploded outside the village areas and did not cause any casualties, local residents report that the military council’s nightly aerial attacks in the Thaung Tha and Myaing areas have forced villagers to abandon their homes and seek shelter in safer locations. The ongoing aerial bombardment has created a humanitarian crisis as civilians can no longer safely remain in their villages and must constantly relocate to avoid becoming casualties of these indiscriminate attacks.
