Four civilians were injured and residents of Naung Pein village were forced to flee en masse as the military council conducted airstrikes and artillery attacks on villages in Naung Cho and Kyaukme Townships in northern Shan State. According to local residents, on July 30, the military council forces attacked Hoe Kho village in Naung Cho Township using two bombs dropped from aircraft, ten artillery shells, and two drones. In this attack, 50-year-old Daw Ma Thein Cho was injured, and two houses were damaged by bomb fragments.
Additionally, on July 26, the military council forces conducted an unprovoked attack on Hoe Kho village using fighter jets to drop two 250-pound bombs. This attack resulted in severe injuries to three civilians and damaged one house, according to a statement released by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). Local residents also confirmed that the entire population of Naung Pein village in Kyaukme Township was forced to evacuate due to ongoing artillery attacks by the military forces. The situation has created a humanitarian crisis as civilians, including those who were already internally displaced, had to flee their homes for safety.
The military council forces began their artillery assault on Naung Pein village around 9 AM on July 31. The artillery shells fired by the military council troops hit the Pin Tein Thatgyi monastery, though fortunately, no civilians were injured in this particular incident. A local resident reported that approximately seven artillery shells were fired since morning, making it unsafe for villagers to remain in their homes. The resident also mentioned that the military claimed to be acting under orders from superior officers and that previous agreements were no longer in effect. This escalation of violence has led to the complete evacuation of the village, with residents seeking refuge in safer locations away from the conflict zone.
