The KNU Duplaya District has reported that military council airstrikes on villages in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, have resulted in injuries to four civilians and caused destruction to schools and homes. On March 5, at approximately 1:30 AM, the military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike using a fighter jet on Asun village in Kawkareik Township. During this attack, two women – one aged 28 and another aged 62 – sustained injuries, while three civilian homes in the village were damaged by the strikes.
Furthermore, on March 4 at around 1:00 PM, the military council carried out an airstrike targeting a school in Bawdine village, Kawkareik Township. The attack resulted in damage to the school building, wells, water tanks, and a motorcycle. Additionally, a 15-year-old youth and a 36-year-old woman were injured in this attack. According to the KNU’s statement, the military council has been deliberately targeting non-military locations including religious buildings, public hospitals, schools, and civilian residential areas with intentional bombing campaigns.
Simultaneously, local sources confirmed that the military council also conducted airstrikes on villages in Kalay Township. On March 5, at approximately 1:00 AM, a Y-12 aircraft carried out consecutive bombing runs from North Sann village to Manhtaw village. While these attacks caused damage to several homes, no civilian casualties were reported. Local sources also indicated that additional strikes were conducted using Yak aircraft in the area. The military council’s continued targeting of civilian infrastructure and non-military targets represents an ongoing pattern of deliberate attacks against the civilian population, as documented by the KNU and local witnesses in these regions.
