On April 13, the pre-Thingyan day, military council forces conducted airstrikes on Kyauktaw Township in Rakhine State and Mindat Township in Chin State, resulting in injuries to three civilians and damage to a Christian church, according to local resistance sources. The attacks targeted two wards near the Shwe Kyaung monastery in Kyauktaw town, where fighter jets dropped bombs on civilian areas.
The airstrike victims were identified as Ma Chit Hnin Wai, age 10, Ma Kyi Kyi Win, age 27, and Ma U Than May, age 34. The military council used two 500-pound bombs in the attack, which destroyed at least five residential houses. Kyauktaw is a township under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) and is primarily a civilian residential area. The attacks occurred despite the military council’s declared ceasefire period.
Similarly, around 4 PM on the same day, military council forces conducted an airstrike on the Town Baptist Christian Church in Mindat, Chin State, causing significant damage to the church building. Local sources confirmed that there were no active conflicts in the area at the time of the bombing, suggesting it was a deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure. The attack occurred in an area where no military engagement was taking place.
While the military council announced a nationwide ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, revolutionary forces have reported that the junta continues to carry out airstrikes, artillery attacks, and war crimes across the country. The military council has consistently violated its own commitments and continues to systematically conduct attacks against civilian populations. These recent attacks demonstrate the ongoing pattern of violence against civilians, particularly in areas where resistance forces maintain significant presence and control.
