Local residents report that thousands of civilians from more than 20 villages have been forced to flee to safety as military council forces advance along the Chindwin River in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, conducting attacks with heavy weapons and mechanized paratroopers. The military vessel group, which began moving upstream from Seiknan Water Pump Station in Myingyan Township around 11:30 AM on August 3, has been indiscriminately firing artillery at villages along the riverbank and launching aerial bombing attacks using mechanized paratroopers.
Due to the military council’s offensive operations, tens of thousands of residents from more than 20 villages in Salingyi Township have had to evacuate to safer locations. According to local sources, the military forces fired heavy artillery at least five times and launched approximately three attacks using paramortars. While an artillery shell struck a school in Khankun (also known as Shwekun) village, there were no casualties as the school was closed at the time of the attack.
Reports indicate that the military council’s vessel group has now reached Monywa city. Local residents remain vigilant as military activities in the region are expected to intensify. Sources say that emergency assistance is urgently needed for civilians who have been displaced from their homes due to the artillery strikes and airborne attacks. The ongoing military operations have created a humanitarian crisis as thousands of villagers are forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in safer areas, with many lacking access to basic necessities and shelter.
