According to a representative from Voice Of Mandalay, civilians are fleeing en masse as military forces conducting operations in Mattara Township, Mandalay Region, are burning houses near Kyauk Tatar Village. The incident began around 12:30 PM on August 18, when military forces entered the area and systematically began setting fire to homes in the vicinity of Kyauk Tatar Village, forcing local residents to flee to safety.
Due to the ongoing military presence in the area, the full extent of the damage cannot yet be confirmed. However, initial reports indicate that while there have been no civilian casualties or arrests, residents have been forced to evacuate to safer locations. The Voice Of Mandalay representative stated that they are continuing to verify the extent of damage caused by the military’s arson attacks on residential properties. Local residents have had to abandon their homes and belongings as the military forces continue their destructive operations in the area.
This is not the first instance of military aggression in the region. On May 23, villages in the eastern part of Mattara Township were subjected to nighttime aerial bombardment by a military jet fighter, which also forced entire villages to evacuate. The military continues to systematically carry out attacks and destruction against civilian populations, forcing residents to abandon their homes and creating severe security concerns throughout the region, according to local sources. The ongoing military operations have created a pattern of displacement and destruction, severely impacting the civilian population’s safety and security in the Mattara Township area.
