The military council conducted aerial attacks on an IDP camp and Shwe Nyaung Taw Pagoda Hill in Wetlet Township, Mandalay Region, despite the absence of any active fighting in the area. According to a representative from the Wetlet Informational Network, two fighter jets from Tada-U and Meiktila air bases carried out nine bombing raids on August 13, targeting areas along District-3 connecting road where displaced civilians had sought refuge. The attacks occurred between 1:17 PM and 1:49 PM, forcing local residents to evacuate the area in fear of further airstrikes.
The military aircraft used 300-pound and 200-pound bombs during the attacks. While no immediate casualties were reported from these particular strikes, civilians were forced to flee their temporary shelters due to fears of subsequent attacks. These airstrikes targeted non-combat areas where displaced people had sought safety, demonstrating a pattern of attacks against civilian infrastructure. The military council’s actions have created an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty among the local population, who are now seeking safer locations away from the targeted areas.
This incident follows a similar attack on August 11, when military council forces conducted an airstrike on a restaurant and vehicle rest stop near Taung Yin village, located on the border of Sagaing and Wetlet townships. That attack resulted in the deaths of 16 civilians and left more than 20 others injured. These continued attacks on civilian areas without military targets have severely disrupted daily life in the region, causing widespread fear and displacement among local communities. The military council’s targeting of civilian infrastructure and areas where displaced people seek refuge represents a concerning pattern of violence against non-combatant populations, forcing residents to constantly relocate in search of safety.
