Residents of villages in Myittha Township, Mandalay Region, are being forced to flee their homes as the military council conducts aerial bombardments and artillery strikes in the area. According to reports from Voice of Mandalay, the military began launching coordinated attacks on the morning of March 19, targeting areas around Boekone village and near Myakantha village with fighter jets and heavy weapons. The attacks have caused widespread panic among local civilians who have had to abandon their homes to seek safety.
The military council’s attacks began with a series of airstrikes at 10:34 AM, 10:39 AM, and 10:46 AM, specifically targeting the vicinity of Boekone village. Fighter jets were used to drop bombs, and rocket attacks were also reported in the area. Additionally, at approximately 10:46 AM, the military fired 17 rounds of 120mm artillery from positions near Myakantha village and Hteetawmoe base, targeting villages east of Myakantha. These coordinated attacks demonstrate a systematic military operation in the area.
The current situation has forced local residents to evacuate their homes and seek shelter in safer locations. The extent of civilian casualties and property damage remains unclear, as verification of the impact has been difficult due to ongoing military operations in the area. A representative from Voice of Mandalay confirmed that the military council has been conducting systematic attacks since morning, using both air assets and heavy artillery in what appears to be a planned offensive operation. The continuous nature of these attacks has created a humanitarian concern for the local population, who have been forced to abandon their homes and livelihoods with no clear indication of when they might be able to return safely.
