A military vessel group that departed from Gawwein Port in Mandalay has anchored within Wetlet Township and is conducting aerial bombardments using Y-12 aircraft along the riverbanks of the Wetlet-Sintguu border area, according to Ko Nagalay, head of the Wetlet Informational Network. The military vessel group, which began its journey upstream from Mandalay’s Gawwein Port on the morning of July 17, is currently anchored east of Sheinmagya Village in the eastern part of Wetlet Township.
The military council’s naval group consists of twelve vessels in total, including five attack vessels and seven supply ships. As they conduct heavy artillery strikes on villages along the Ayeyarwady River, thousands of civilians living along the riverbanks have been forced to flee to safer locations. During the naval group’s advance through Wetlet Township along the river, fighter jets and Y-12 aircraft provided aerial support, and in the evening, conducted aerial bombardments along the riverbanks in the eastern part of Wetlet Township and the western part of Sintguu Township.
While there have been no civilian casualties reported from the military council’s air strikes so far, local residents remain deeply concerned about the possibility of further aerial attacks. Local sources emphasize that civilians living along the riverbanks need to remain vigilant, as the military council’s naval group may continue its movement along the Ayeyarwady River. Residents of villages near the riverbanks are advised to take necessary security precautions, as the situation remains volatile with the continued presence of military vessels and aircraft in the area.
