Local military sources report that civilians in villages across Yinmabin and Salingyi Townships in Sagaing Region have been forced to flee to safety following airstrikes conducted by the military council forces. On August 3rd, in the morning hours, the military council carried out two separate airstrikes using fighter jets targeting a forested area in the western part of Yinmabin Township. While no civilian casualties were reported from these airstrikes, residents from villages in the western part of the township have had to evacuate to safer locations.
Additionally, the military council’s mechanized airborne units conducted three separate bombing raids on villages in the eastern part of Salingyi Township from 11:55 AM until 12:00 PM on the same day. Although these attacks did not result in civilian casualties, local residents have been forced to flee to safer areas due to fears of potential follow-up airstrikes. Local military sources confirmed that villagers are seeking refuge in secure locations as they remain concerned about the possibility of additional aerial attacks by the military forces.
The frequency of airstrikes by military council forces in the Sagaing Region has increased significantly this year, with civilian areas increasingly becoming targets of these attacks. Local residents face daily threats from aerial bombardments and must remain prepared to evacuate at any moment. The military council’s air campaigns have resulted in extensive damage to civilian homes, schools, religious buildings, and agricultural lands, according to local residents. These ongoing military operations have created a persistent state of insecurity for civilian populations in these areas, forcing them to live in constant readiness for immediate evacuation while dealing with the destruction of their property and livelihoods.
