
A 30-year-old man was shot dead near Thuka Clinic in Marshikhaung Ward, Hpakant City, Kachin State. The incident occurred in the morning of September 1, and local sources confirm that the exact location from where the shooting originated remains unknown. This incident is part of the ongoing violence in Hpakant city.
Since the arrival of military troops in Hpakant on May 27, approximately 70 civilians have been killed and more than 100 injured due to the military council’s violent actions. The military council forces have established positions in five wards across Hpakant city, setting up checkpoints and conducting arbitrary arrests at any time. They have also been raiding homes without warrants and detaining civilians without cause, according to local residents.
In recent arrests, on August 31, the military detained a motorcycle workshop instructor and three apprentices from a workshop in the jade market area, as well as several people traveling by car on the street. On August 30, more than 10 young people celebrating a birthday party at the Kyauk Sein Thu restaurant in Marshikhaung Ward were arrested. Additionally, on August 29, approximately 15 youth were detained near the Jade Mountain Bridge in Marshikhaung Ward.
Currently, more than 40 young people arrested by the military council forces remain in detention without being released, causing significant concern among their family members. The situation in Hpakant has deteriorated with increasing oppression by the military council, creating serious security concerns for the daily lives of civilians, as reported by local residents.
