The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has reported that one civilian was injured and two houses along with a school were damaged due to airstrikes and artillery attacks by the military council in Shwegyin Township (Shwe Htee Township), Bago Region. On March 15 at 1:50 PM, fighter jets from the military council’s air force based in Naypyidaw conducted an airstrike on Thettunkone village in Shwegyin Township, dropping two 300-pound bombs. The aerial attack resulted in severe injuries to a 50-year-old male resident and caused significant damage to one house and the village school.
Furthermore, on March 14 at 1:54 PM, the military council’s Infantry Battalion 264 fired three 120mm artillery shells into Kanyin Kyun village in Shwegyin Township, resulting in the destruction of one house. According to the KNU, these deliberate attacks targeting civilian populations have forced innocent residents in the Klerwehtoo District to live in constant fear and struggle daily for their survival and security. The military council has been systematically targeting local civilians, particularly escalating their airstrikes and artillery attacks in the region.
The military council’s continued commission of war crimes against civilians has not only disrupted the daily lives of local residents but also caused significant psychological trauma, particularly affecting children and the elderly, according to local sources. The KNU strongly condemns these violent attacks by the military council and has called on the international community to take action against such crimes. The ongoing military operations have created an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty in the region, with civilians facing constant threats to their lives and property. The systematic nature of these attacks demonstrates the military council’s disregard for civilian safety and international humanitarian law, as they continue to target residential areas and civilian infrastructure including schools.
