The Karen National Union (KNU) Central has reported that one civilian was injured and two houses and a school were damaged due to airstrikes and artillery attacks by the military council in Shwegyin Township (Shwe Htee Township), Bago Region. On March 15 at 1:50 PM, fighter jets from the military council’s air force based in Naypyidaw conducted an airstrike on Thettunkone village in Shwegyin Township, dropping two 300-pound bombs. The aerial attack resulted in severe injuries to a 50-year-old male resident of Thettunkone village and caused significant damage to one house and the village school.
Additionally, on March 14 at 1:54 PM, the military council’s Infantry Battalion 264 fired three 120mm artillery shells into Kanyin Kyun village in Shwegyin Township, resulting in the destruction of one house. According to the KNU’s statement, the military council forces continue to target civilians living in the Klerwehtoo District with violent attacks, causing residents to live in constant fear for their lives and safety as they struggle to survive day by day.
The military council’s airstrikes and artillery attacks have resulted in frequent destruction of civilian homes, schools, religious buildings, and infrastructure, as well as civilian casualties and injuries. Human rights organizations have declared that the military council is deliberately targeting civilian areas and committing war crimes. The continuous attacks have created an atmosphere of terror among local residents, who face daily challenges in maintaining their basic survival while living under the threat of military violence. The military council’s actions demonstrate a pattern of systematic violence against civilian populations, with complete disregard for human life and international humanitarian law.
