A representative from the Salin Township People’s Administration Group has confirmed that Ko Kaung Khant Nyein, a 24-year-old resident of Taungbo village in Magway Region’s Salin Township, was arrested by military council forces, forced to wear People’s Defense Force (PDF) uniform, and killed. The incident began on April 6 when military council troops entered Taungbo village in North Chaungphyu village tract, Salin Township. During their raid, they arrested one villager and opened fire on other residents, resulting in injuries to three civilians.
The body of Ko Kaung Khant Nyein was discovered around 8 AM on April 10 in a ravine east of Taungbo village. He was found wearing PDF uniform and had been brutally killed. According to local sources, the military council soldiers also looted Ko Kaung Khant Nyein’s gold jewelry and money. The victim was identified as an internally displaced person who had been seeking refuge from military violence. Local officials reported that the military council forces likely dressed him in PDF uniform to create false propaganda about the incident.
The Salin Township People’s Administration Group has urged local residents to evacuate preemptively if they receive timely information about approaching military columns. They have warned that the military council continues to commit acts of violence, looting, torture, and killings against civilians, emphasizing the need for residents to remain extremely vigilant. The administration has highlighted the military’s ongoing pattern of brutality against civilians and stressed the importance of early warning systems to help protect local communities from such attacks.
