The People’s Administration Group of Mindat Township has reported civilian casualties and property damage following airstrikes by the military council on Mindat city in Chin State. According to the report, the military council conducted airstrikes using fighter jets near Mindat city in the early hours of May 7 at 1:30 AM, dropping two bombs in the area. Another airstrike was carried out later the same day at 2:40 PM, targeting the city again.
The airstrikes resulted in significant damage to government buildings, staff housing quarters, and civilian homes in Mindat. Local sources confirmed that there were civilian casualties from these attacks. The situation in Mindat remains precarious as military aircraft continue to circle the area constantly, conducting seemingly random attacks at any time. Communications infrastructure in Mindat has been severely affected, with both telephone and internet lines remaining cut off by the military council. Local residents are primarily relying on Starlink systems for communication with the outside world.
Mindat has repeatedly endured offensive operations by the military council’s forces, leaving local residents in constant fear for their lives and property. Human rights organizations have declared these airstrikes targeting innocent civilians as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The local population continues to live under daily threat to their lives, with urgent calls for international assistance being made. The ongoing attacks have created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with civilians bearing the brunt of the military council’s aggressive actions. The systematic targeting of civilian areas and infrastructure has led to widespread displacement and suffering among the local population, who are struggling to maintain basic services and communication with the outside world under these challenging circumstances.
