Four civil resistance groups in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, held a joint protest calling for immediate action against the military council under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization’s Constitution. The demonstration, which took place on March 15, demanded international community intervention regarding the military council’s violations of workers’ rights.
The participating civil society organizations documented numerous violations by the military council, including forced labor, workers’ rights violations, unfair wage deductions, and other human rights abuses. They also highlighted how the military council has been suppressing labor unions and detaining labor leaders. The protesters emphasized the urgent need for international intervention to protect workers’ rights in Myanmar.
The demonstrators specifically called for immediate implementation of ILO Article 33 measures against the military council, urging the international community to take effective action to protect the rights of workers and civilians in Myanmar. Participants in the protest carried signs and posters related to workers’ rights and conducted their demonstration peacefully under the banner ‘ILO implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025’. The protest highlighted the ongoing struggle of Myanmar’s workers under military council rule and the need for concrete international action to address these violations.
