Chinese rescue teams have joined the ongoing rescue operations at the collapsed Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay, beginning their work at 7 AM on March 30, as announced by Myanmar’s Fire Services Department. The rescue effort now includes 50 members from the Fire Department’s search and rescue team working alongside their Chinese counterparts to locate and save those trapped in the collapsed structure. The joint teams are conducting intensive search and rescue operations at the site of the building collapse, which is located on 60th Street in Aungmyethazan Township.
The Sky Villa condominium, an 11-story building, partially sank into the ground following an earthquake, with approximately five floors submerged below ground level. Family members of those trapped inside have been making desperate appeals for help through social media platforms, reporting that they can still hear voices of some survivors from within the collapsed structure. The rescue operations have already resulted in several successful extractions of survivors from the building debris. The arrival of the Chinese rescue teams has brought additional expertise and resources to the ongoing rescue efforts.
In a notable rescue, teams successfully extracted a woman named Ma Phyu Lay Khaing, who had been trapped for over 30 hours following the earthquake. She was immediately transported to the hospital accompanied by her husband, Ko Ye Aung. The Fire Services Department has expressed optimism that the inclusion of Chinese rescue teams will enhance the effectiveness of the rescue operations, stating that they are working tirelessly to rescue all remaining trapped individuals as quickly as possible. The collaborative effort between Myanmar and Chinese rescue teams represents a significant boost to the rescue capabilities at the site, as they continue to work against time to save those still trapped within the collapsed structure.
