The Chin Brotherhood Alliance has officially announced their plans to launch an offensive to capture Tedim Township in Chin State in the near future. Following their successful capture of Falam town on April 9, the Secretary General of the Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF), Salai William Chin, confirmed their next military objective during a live broadcast celebrating the victory in Falam. He stated that while their goal for 2024 was to completely eliminate the military council’s presence from Chin State, they have achieved approximately 60 percent success so far, including the capture of four townships.
Currently, Tedim Township hosts military units under the command of Infantry Battalion 269 and some forces from Military Division 11. However, these forces are reportedly stretched thin as they are also responsible for the security of Thantlang town, according to former Army Captain Zin Yaw, who has defected from the military. Of the nine townships in Chin State, the military council now only maintains control over three townships: Hakha, Thantlang, and Tedim. Even in Thantlang Township, the military council’s control is limited to a small area within the town proper, according to resistance forces. The Chin revolutionary forces have confirmed that they now control over 85 percent of Chin State’s territory.
According to resistance sources, in Thantlang Township, the military council only maintains control over a portion of the downtown area, while the Chin National Army (CNA) controls the surrounding regions. Regular clashes occur in Thantlang town, with CNA and allied forces maintaining a blockade around the city, as confirmed by CNA sources. The current territorial control in Chin State is divided among various revolutionary forces: the Arakan Army (AA) controls Paletwa Township; the Chin Brotherhood Alliance holds Matupi, Kanpetlet, Mindat, and Falam townships; and the Chin Land Council, which includes the CNA, controls Tonzang Township along with seven towns including Rihkhawdar, Lailenpi, and Rezua. This strategic distribution of control demonstrates the significant advances made by resistance forces in their campaign to liberate Chin State from military council control.
