A three-year-old child and an elderly woman were killed when the military council conducted an unprovoked airstrike on Thar Si village in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. According to local residents, the military council’s aircraft dropped two bombs on the village at 1:45 AM on July 31, with one bomb striking a house south of the village monastery. The attack occurred without any ongoing fighting in the area.
The airstrike resulted in the immediate deaths of the young child and their grandmother at the scene. Six other villagers were also injured in the attack, including four men and two women. Two residential houses were destroyed in the bombing. Following the military council’s aerial assault, residents of Thar Si village were forced to flee to nearby areas for safety, according to local sources.
Thar Si village, home to more than 60 households, became the target of an unprovoked aerial attack that local residents say demonstrates the military council’s brutality against civilians. The military council has been consistently targeting civilian areas with airstrikes, particularly during nighttime hours when residents are sleeping and most vulnerable. The targeting of civilian areas without any military engagement has become a pattern of the military council’s operations, resulting in casualties among innocent civilians including children and elderly residents.
