In Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, local residents and internally displaced persons (IDPs) held a candlelight vigil to mourn the victims who lost their lives in the recent earthquake. The protest march, which included members of the Anya Strike Force public movement, expressed their deep condolences for the earthquake-affected civilians.
The participants strongly condemned the military council’s continued airstrikes even during the aftermath of the earthquake disaster. They expressed concerns that if international aid reaches the military council, it could be diverted for military expenditure and weapons procurement instead of helping the affected civilians. The protesters emphasized the importance of ensuring that humanitarian assistance directly reaches the people who are genuinely in need.
The participants also denounced the Thai government’s engagement with the leader of the coup military group. They urged the international community to take special care in ensuring that aid intended for earthquake victims reaches the affected civilians directly, rather than being channeled through the military council. The protesters highlighted the critical need for transparent and direct humanitarian assistance to support those affected by the earthquake, while preventing the military council from misappropriating international aid for their own purposes.
