A new initiative to construct bomb shelters in Upper Myanmar has been launched to protect civilians and children from the terrorist military council’s air strikes. The campaign, organized by the Upper Myanmar Artillery Group, will run from May 15 to June 15, according to a spokesperson who confirmed the details to Yangon Modern News Agency. This protective measure comes in response to the military council’s ongoing aerial attacks targeting civilian areas.
The military council has been conducting regular airstrikes targeting civilian populations, schools, and populated areas, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, particularly among children. To prevent further loss of life, the initiative aims to construct bomb shelters across the region. Each shelter is estimated to cost approximately 2 million kyats (20 lakhs), with initial plans to build thirty shelters in the first phase. The project represents a crucial step in protecting vulnerable communities from aerial bombardment.
A representative from the Upper Myanmar Artillery Group explained that for security reasons, the construction activities will not be publicized on social media platforms. Instead, they will work directly with donors through established communication channels. Those interested in contributing to the initiative can do so through designated contact methods. The spokesperson emphasized that this campaign is specifically designed to protect children and civilians in Upper Myanmar who face daily threats from military airstrikes, particularly when targeting schools and other civilian infrastructure. The project demonstrates the ongoing efforts of civil society organizations to protect civilians from the military council’s violent actions against its own people.
