Brigadier General Aye Min Oo, who previously surrendered to the Kokang MNDAA forces in northern Shan State, has returned to Lashio city as the commander of the Northeast Military Command and is now leading reconstruction efforts in the city. He attended the opening ceremony of Lashio Public Hospital on May 5th and conducted inspections around the city. Local residents confirmed that he remains in Lashio to date. There are plans to re-establish the Northeast Military Command headquarters in Lashio.
Brigadier General Aye Min Oo was among the high-ranking military officers who surrendered to the MNDAA forces when they captured the Laukkaing Regional Operations Command headquarters on January 4, 2024. At that time, he was serving as the operations commander of the 14th Military Operations Command. Other senior officers who surrendered with him included Regional Commander Brigadier General Moe Kyaw Thu, Acting Chairman of the Kokang Self-Administered Zone Brigadier General Htun Htun Myint, 55th Division Commander Brigadier General Zaw Myo Win, and other top military officials.
The MNDAA captured Lashio in August 2024 but withdrew in April this year following Chinese mediation. After losing Lashio, the military council temporarily established the Northeast Military Command in Tangyan, appointing Major General Myint Kyaw Htun as commander. However, Major General Myint Kyaw Htun was removed from his position on February 28 after being accused of accepting bribes worth tens of millions from Chinese fraud syndicates, and was replaced by Brigadier General Aye Min Oo.
