
Military sources have confirmed that Deputy Colonel Zaw Myint Win, a member of the Ayeyarwady District Administrative Team, and a Major from the Oaktwin Township Administrative Team were killed during clashes at the Sit Kwin Ta Saung checkpoint along the Yangon-Pyay Road in Minhla Township, Bago Region. The conflict began around 4 PM on June 16 when resistance forces launched an attack on the military council’s checkpoint near Oktwin village in Minhla Township.
During the fighting, three innocent civilians returning from a wedding in Pyay were killed by the military council’s indiscriminate firing. Their bodies have not yet been recovered. Simultaneously, clashes between military council forces and resistance groups continued in two locations between the Yangon-Pyay Road and the Bago Yoma area within Minhla Township. The fighting intensified after military council reinforcements arrived in the area.
Around 2 AM on June 17, the military council’s random artillery shelling struck Phalaykin North Su village, killing an 80-year-old retired teacher, Daw Tin Yi, and severely injuring Ma Khaing Thein Kyaw. Later in the afternoon, additional fighting broke out between resistance forces and Pyu Saw Htee groups who had forcibly commandeered a civilian vehicle from Letsut village and arrived at Talay village.
Due to the ongoing conflicts, several schools in the area, including Oak Ta Pin High School, have been temporarily closed, and civilians have been warned to avoid traveling on the Yangon-Pyay Road. Currently, fighting continues in approximately three locations within Minhla Township, with reports of significant casualties on the military council’s side, including an unconfirmed report of a tactical commander being among the casualties. Local sources indicate that People’s Defense Forces control most of the conflict areas in Minhla Township, while military council forces are confined to limited positions within the town proper.
