The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has firmly rejected the military council’s demand for their forces to withdraw from territories under their control in northern Shan State. The TNLA currently maintains control over Naung Cho, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Momeik, and Mogok townships, where they have established administrative mechanisms and are providing security and basic necessities for local residents. Despite the military council’s withdrawal demands, the TNLA announced they would continue to maintain these areas for the benefit of the public.
In Moe Township of Bago Region, revolutionary alliance forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) have successfully captured five villages previously occupied by military council troops. According to an official statement from the Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee, the battles resulted in significant casualties on the military council’s side, including a deputy battalion commander and a warrant officer, along with numerous soldiers. The fighting has forced local civilians to flee to safer areas, creating a need for humanitarian assistance. The successful operation demonstrates the growing strength of resistance forces in their fight against the military council’s occupation.
In Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, military council patrol units have been arbitrarily arresting civilians returning from market trips to town and travelers from various villages. Among those detained, one person was released after paying a ransom of 5 million kyats, while those unable to pay remain detained at the No. 8 Training Battalion. The military council forces continue to systematically engage in extortion, forced military recruitment, and unlawful detention of civilians. These actions reflect the ongoing pattern of human rights violations and oppression against the civilian population by the military council, who use various forms of coercion and intimidation to maintain their control over local communities.
