A meeting between Kim Aris, the younger son of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and the Myanmar community was held in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States on April 6. The gathering was organized with several key objectives: to advocate for the release of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, to raise international awareness about Myanmar’s ongoing crisis, to encourage international support and assistance, to push for stronger actions against the military council, and to seek support from independent media organizations.
The event was attended by Newark Mayor Michael K. Hannon and Union City Council member Jeff Wang, who delivered messages of support and presented honorary certificates to Kim Aris. During the event, artist Nu Yin auctioned her portrait painting of Aung San Suu Kyi and donated her personal jewelry and other items for auction. Additionally, paintings featuring Golden Rose, Mother Suu, and her dog were raffled off to donors who contributed to the cause.
The funds raised from this event will be donated to provide drinking water, food, medicine, funeral expenses for the deceased, and other humanitarian assistance for the people of Myanmar. The gathering also included candlelight vigils and interfaith prayers for the liberation of Myanmar people from the effects of civil war and natural disasters. The event demonstrated the Myanmar community’s continued solidarity and commitment to supporting their fellow citizens during these challenging times.
