On September 7 in Yangon, military council member Zaw Min Tun made a statement regarding Aung San Suu Kyi’s health condition. He accused those who oppose Myanmar’s progress of fabricating and broadcasting false news about Aung San Suu Kyi’s health status to overshadow Min Aung Hlaing’s China trip. Zaw Min Tun made these statements through military-controlled media outlets at the Naypyidaw airport after returning from China.
Kim Aris, son of National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, has revealed through international media that his mother is suffering severely from heart disease and that despite requests for her to be examined by a cardiac specialist, the military council has denied such requests. However, Zaw Min Tun denied these claims, stating that Aung San Suu Kyi’s health is good and that the news about her health concerns was fabricated to impact their China trip. He claimed they had addressed these ‘false reports’ in a timely manner.
While Zaw Min Tun firmly asserted that Aung San Suu Kyi is in good health, he failed to provide any evidence to support this claim. Furthermore, he was unable to clearly disclose where and how Aung San Suu Kyi is being detained. Meanwhile, Arakan Army (AA) Commander-in-Chief Major General Tun Myat Naing expressed concern for Aung San Suu Kyi’s health condition and emphasized that genuine peace cannot be achieved without granting amnesty to Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.
