
A well-attended prayer ceremony marking the 80th birthday of State Counsellor and public leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, along with prayers for the release of all political prisoners, was held at Times Square, one of the busiest locations in New York City, on the evening of June 21. The event, taking place at this iconic location in New York City, drew attention from both tourists and locals from around the world, highlighting the international significance of the occasion.
The ceremony featured representatives from four major religions – Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism – who offered prayers and blessings. Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, delivered a commemorative speech honoring Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, highlighting her democratic struggles and sacrifices for the people of Myanmar. His speech emphasized the continued importance of democratic values and the ongoing struggle for freedom in Myanmar.
Additionally, revolutionary artists including Kyaw Thiha, Win Naing Soe, Leo, and other singers performed special birthday tribute songs. Their performances reflected the hopes and aspirations of Myanmar’s people who continue to fight for democracy, freedom, and justice. The audience joined in singing these songs, demonstrating unity and solidarity with the cause.
