
On March 16 at approximately 6:00 AM, a man armed with two pairs of scissors entered the Pathein City Police Station in Ayeyarwady Region and launched an attack that left four police officers injured, including Station Commander Kyaw Zay Latt. According to local sources who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency, the assailant entered the police station compound suddenly and began attacking everyone he encountered, including both male and female officers, with the scissors.
The attacker, who has been identified as a resident of Ngapudaw Township though his complete name and address remain unknown, was eventually subdued by police forces under the military council. During the arrest, the assailant was shot in the thigh and severely beaten by the officers. Sources report that he is currently in critical condition due to both gunshot wounds and injuries sustained during the violent arrest. The incident, which police initially attempted to keep quiet, resulted in injuries to Station Commander Kyaw Zay Latt and three other officers.
A Pathein-based source revealed that while authorities tried to suppress news of the attack initially, details eventually emerged about how the assailant indiscriminately attacked anyone he encountered within the station grounds with the scissors. The source confirmed that after the Station Commander and other officers were injured, the attacker was unable to escape and was captured following the shooting. The military council’s police force is currently conducting a detailed investigation into the incident. The severity of the assailant’s injuries from both the gunshot wound and the beating by officers has left him in a life-threatening condition, according to local sources familiar with the situation.
