
On March 16 at approximately 6:00 AM, an incident occurred at the Pathein City Police Station in Ayeyarwady Region when a man armed with two pairs of scissors entered the premises and launched an attack. The assault resulted in injuries to four police personnel, including Police Station Commander Kyaw Zay Latt. According to local sources, the attacker suddenly entered the police station compound and began attacking everyone he encountered, including both male and female officers, with the scissors.
The attacker, who has been identified as a resident of Ngapudaw Township though his complete name and address remain unknown, was eventually apprehended after being shot in the thigh by police officers under the military council. During the arrest, the suspect was also reportedly beaten by police officers, resulting in severe injuries that have left him in critical condition. Local sources have confirmed that the combination of the gunshot wound and injuries sustained during the arrest has left the attacker’s life in danger.
While police authorities have attempted to suppress information about the incident, local residents suggest the attacker may have been suffering from mental health issues. Police Station Commander Kyaw Zay Latt and the other injured officers have received medical treatment, while the attacker is being treated under heavy security. In response to this incident, security measures throughout Pathein city have been significantly heightened. The attack has raised concerns about security protocols at police facilities and highlighted the ongoing tensions in the region under the current military administration.
