Protests against Myanmar’s military coup and donations for war refugees were held in Gumi and Daegu cities of South Korea. The demonstration was led by revolutionary activist Daegu Sayadaw and Myanmar citizens residing in Korea, showing their opposition to the military dictatorship. The main purpose of the protest was to raise global awareness about human rights violations, violence, and the suffering of internally displaced people in Myanmar caused by the military coup.
Along with the protest, fundraising for war refugees was conducted, with a second donation of 700,000 Korean Won (equivalent to 2 million Myanmar Kyat) being contributed to the Sittoung Campaign. These funds will be used to provide crucial humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons. Daegu Sayadaw encouraged all Myanmar citizens, both inside and outside the country, to continue their united struggle until liberation from the military dictatorship is achieved.
Furthermore, protesters demanded an end to the military regime’s brutality, violence against civilians, arbitrary arrests, and human rights violations in Myanmar. They called for increased international pressure to completely eliminate the military dictatorship and restore democracy. Myanmar citizens in Korea pledged to continue providing maximum support for their motherland. The demonstration highlighted the ongoing crisis in Myanmar and emphasized the importance of international solidarity in supporting the Myanmar people’s struggle for democracy and freedom from military rule.
