Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, has stated that while the revolution that began from zero following the military coup has managed to control over 50 percent of the country’s territory after more than four years, it still requires continued support and resilience. Speaking at a discussion on Myanmar’s challenges and opportunities organized by the Asia Society on March 6, the ambassador provided a detailed overview of the people’s revolution progress.
The ambassador emphasized that the people are strongly resisting the terrorist military group, and due to the people’s resilient struggle, the revolution is achieving victories while the terrorist military group is facing defeat. He noted that although the revolution started with nothing, revolutionary armed organizations and ethnic revolutionary armed groups have now managed to control more than half of the country’s territory. The ambassador elaborated on how this remarkable progress was achieved through the unified efforts of various resistance forces.
During the discussion, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun detailed Myanmar’s current situation, the role of the international community, and ASEAN’s involvement. He explained that the revolution is people-centered and people-oriented, with its success being driven by youth participation and support from social media and technology. The ambassador emphasized how these factors have contributed to the advancement of the revolutionary movement, highlighting the crucial role of public participation in the struggle.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to the people inside Myanmar, Myanmar people abroad, particularly the youth, and Myanmar’s international friends. He acknowledged that the revolution’s achievements over the past four years were made possible through their persistent resistance efforts. However, he also stressed that continued participation, support, and resilience from all parties are still necessary for the revolution’s ultimate success. The ambassador called for ongoing engagement from all stakeholders, emphasizing that collective effort remains crucial for achieving final victory in the revolution.
