
Local residents reported that administrator Htay Maung and village clerk Myo Zin Win, who were leading the collection of military recruitment lists in Yoekun village, Wundwin Township, Mandalay Region, were shot dead. The incident occurred around 2:45 PM on March 17 when unidentified armed individuals entered their homes and opened fire. Both men died instantly in the shooting.
The deceased administrator Htay Maung and clerk Myo Zin Win were actively involved in collecting lists of young people for military service within the village tract and regularly assisted in arresting and sending young people as porters for the military on a monthly basis, according to local residents. Additionally, they were known to gather intelligence on revolutionary forces’ movements and report to the military, as well as intimidate local civilians. They were also reported to have been collecting what they called ‘military service fees’ from residents.
A local resident revealed that the two men were engaged in recruiting people for the military, collecting lists and military service fees, as well as monitoring revolutionary forces’ movements and reporting to the military via telephone. They were also known to threaten local civilians. Local residents view this incident as a clearing operation by revolutionary forces against those participating in the military council’s administrative mechanism. The two men’s actions had significantly impacted the local community through their involvement in forced recruitment and surveillance activities on behalf of the military council.
