In Pazundaung Township’s Ward 3 of Yangon Region, Administrative Officer Thein Myint Oo has been arbitrarily selling squatter land plots, while Police Officer Win Hein Soe has been extorting money from young people through drug-related arrests, according to police sources. Since early July, the administrative officer has been collecting hundreds of thousands of kyats for squatter land plots located behind Ocean Super Market in Ward 3, while also illegally granting housing construction permits in these areas.
The area has become a hub for open drug trafficking, gambling operations, and illegal two-digit and three-digit lottery businesses, all operating with apparent impunity. Despite numerous complaints from local residents to both the police station and township general administration office, no action has been taken to address these issues. Administrative Officer Thein Myint Oo and police informant Moe Aung have been demanding hundreds of thousands of kyats in exchange for construction permits in these squatter areas, as confirmed by police sources.
Furthermore, Police Officer Win Hein Soe from Pazundaung Police Station, in collaboration with Ward 6 Administrative Officer U Zaw Zaw Htay, has been targeting four young people from Ward 6 with false drug use accusations. They have been extorting money from these individuals, demanding 100,000 kyats from each person. On July 4, Administrative Officer U Zaw Zaw Htay personally visited the homes of these young people to collect the extortion money. These actions clearly demonstrate the abuse of power and oppression being carried out against local residents by those in positions of authority.
